The Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has accused the US and Donald Trump of orchestrating the recent protests, claiming they have caused casualties, damage, and slander. In a speech on Saturday, Khamenei acknowledged the deaths of thousands during the unrest, some in brutal ways, but blamed 'seditionists' for the violence. The US President has encouraged Iranian protesters to continue their demonstrations and threatened military intervention if security forces harm them. The protests, which began over economic issues on December 28, have escalated into calls for the end of the Supreme Leader's rule. The Iranian government labels the demonstrations as 'riots' supported by foreign adversaries. Protesters have faced deadly force, and the internet and communication services have been largely shut down. Despite a recent decrease in reported unrest, internet restrictions persist, making it challenging to assess the situation's current status. Khamenei's speech also labeled President Trump as a 'criminal' and demanded accountability for the unrest. He further alleged that America's goal is to 'swallow' Iran. Trump, however, has not yet responded to Khamenei's statements, and the White House has been approached for comment. Trump's previous remarks on Wednesday suggested that the killing in Iran had ceased but did not rule out military action. These developments come after the US and UK reduced their military presence at the Al-Udeid air base in Qatar, which officials described as a precautionary measure.
