This revelation has prompted Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski to appeal to Elon Musk, requesting that he prevent Russia from using Starlink to target Ukrainian cities.
Musk, however, vehemently denied the accusation, stating that Starlink's terms of service prohibit offensive military use, as it is a civilian commercial system. He also pointed out that Ukraine itself utilizes Starlink for military communications.
Ukrainian defense analysts have speculated that the train attack might have been executed using Shahed drones equipped with SpaceX technology, a favored weapon of Russia in its invasion. Olena Kryzhanivska, an analyst, confirmed that Russia has been integrating Starlink into its drone operations.
Serhiy Beskrestnov, a military analyst and drone warfare expert, further asserted that the train was hit by Shahed drones with online control, intentionally targeting a passenger car. He raised concerns about the potential involvement of Starlink in the attack.
SpaceX has not responded to requests for comment on these allegations. Kryzhanivska highlighted the vulnerability of trains to Russia's precision-guided weapons due to uneven air defense coverage in Ukraine.
